Japanese Woodblock Print  Name

Machi Ami   (待チ網)

From Series -  One Thousand Images of the Sea

Generally, the fishing method known as waiting nets involves stretching a net underwater

and waiting for fish to come and catch them.

However, this illustration shows fish being swept away by rapids being scooped up

 with nets or baskets.

The river flowing gradually downwards creates splashes,

making it easy to scoop up fish that have lost their way.
