Generally, the fishing method known as waiting nets involves stretching a net underwater
and waiting for fish to come and catch them.
However, this illustration shows fish being swept away by rapids being scooped up
with nets or baskets.
The river flowing gradually downwards creates splashes,
making it easy to scoop up fish that have lost their way.
Hokusai Series of One Thousand Images of the Sea were reproduced
by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association
These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition
at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen
like a dream team in Japan.
