The Oi River flows between Suruga and Totomi.
The way it crosses several sandbars is just like the saying, "You can cross
the Hakone 8 ri on horseback, but you can't cross the Oi River.
" When the water level rose, people were stuck for a month, but thanks to that,
the post town prospered.
It is said that the Shimada hairstyle was invented by a prostitute from Shimada.
The 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō (Hoeido-Ban) were reproduced
by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association
These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition
at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen
like a dream team in Japan.
