The area around Nishi-Shinjuku is called Tsunohazu Village.
Kumano Jyuunisha was also called "Juuniso" (12 shrines) because it was dedicated to
the 12 gods worshipped at Kumano Gongen.
People seeking coolness in the summer used to visit the pond in the shrine grounds.
Kumano Shrine is still located in Central Park, but the pond was filled in in 1968.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
