Japanese Woodblock Print  Name

No.02 - 1st Station Shinagawa  品川 日之出

From The 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō (Hoeido-Edition)

Shinagawa, which was established as the first post station on the Tokaido,

had been an independent commercial port for a long time, so the foundations for a post

 station had already been laid.

It was also an entertainment district near Edo, and prospered

with tea houses and brothels.

From the way the people bowed down on the ground in the lower right corner,

we can tell that this was the end of a feudal lord's procession.
