From Series -  One Thousand Images of the Sea

While the distant sea and sky are indigo blue, the foreground is boldly painted

in thick ink and a wipe-off technique is used to create subtle changes

 in the color of the water's surface, skillfully expressing the atmosphere of

a beach as the night begins to lighten.

Hokusai Series of One Thousand Images of the Sea were reproduced

by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association

These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition

at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen

like a dream team in Japan.
