The painting only depicts two fishing boats on the waves crashing against
a large rock and the waves receding, but the lines of the waves splitting diagonally
in two directions are effective in depicting a majestic world on the sea.
It is said that Hokusai actually stayed in Choshi and made detailed
sketches of the changes in the waves every day.
Hokusai Series of One Thousand Images of the Sea were reproduced
by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association
These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition
at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen
like a dream team in Japan.
