It is difficult to tell from this painting where in Koshu this is,
but since there is not a single light from a house,
it appears to be somewhere in the mountains.
Hifuri fishing is a fishing method in which a light is shone on the water's surface
in the middle of the night and fish are speared or scooped up,
and it is also called yafuri, yakiami, or yataki.
Hokusai Series of One Thousand Images of the Sea were reproduced
by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association
These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition
at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen
like a dream team in Japan.
