Goto is an archipelago at the western end of Hizen Province (Nagasaki Prefecture),
and even today, its waters are a thriving fishing area.
Whaling is as popular as in the Kishu Kumano Sea (Wakayama Prefecture) and
Tosa Bay (Kochi Prefecture), where the traditional fishing method was
to surround whales with dozens of boats and shoot harpoons at them to catch them.
Hokusai Series of One Thousand Images of the Sea were reproduced
by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association
These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition
at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen
like a dream team in Japan.
