From Series - Thirty six Views of Mount Fuji
In the Totomi Mountains is thought to have been painted in the western region of
Shizuoka prefecture, but the exact location has not been identified.
A huge square timber is depicted at an angle in the centre of the painting,
with sawhorses sawing above and below it.
The composition is geometric, and above all, Mount Fuji is visible through the triangular
space created by the tall pillars supporting the timber, which seamlessly matches
the triangle of the mountain's shape, creating a mysterious space
that is seamlessly expressed.
This painting can be described as a masterpiece, completed by
Hokusai's calculated composition.
This series of Hokusai’s “Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji” has been reproduced by the Tokyo traditional Woodblock Print Association.
