御厩川岸より両国橋夕陽見
From Series - Thirty six Views of Mount Fuji
The bank of the Ommayagashi River, also known as Fujimi no Watashi,
was a ferry crossing connecting what is now Honjo 1-chome in Sumida Ward and
Kuramae in Taito Ward, and is said to have derived its name from the fact that
the stables of the second shogun, Hidetada, were established here and a stable
magistrate was stationed there.
The painting captures Ryogoku Bridge at an angle, with Yanagibashi Bridge depicted
small next to the sashimi poles.
On the ferry are depicted various common people, including street vendors and
masseurs, all in silence in the evening scenery, exuding an atmosphere
that makes one feel the end of the day in full swing.
