From Series - Thirty six Views of Mount Fuji
Fukagawa Mannenbashi Bridge is a bridge over the Onagi River in what is now Koto
Ward, and Hokusai is known to have lived nearby for a period in his later years.
Perhaps for this reason, Hokusai has captured the entire bridge,
which he must have seen many times in person, geometrically from the side,
and depicted in detail the various people passing by.
On the other hand, Hashimoto has shown the view of Mt. Fuji and the city as
if they were two different landscapes,
and has shown his penchant for fitting them seamlessly into the same painting.
This type of composition can also be found in Kawamura Minsetsu's
"Hashimoto" in "White Fuji," but this painting makes it even more realistic.
This series of Hokusai’s “Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji” has been reproduced by
the Tokyo traditional Woodblock Print Association.
These traditional woodblock prints are produced by a contemporary dream team of many of the top skilled Japanese craftsmen, exactly as was the first edition at Edo-Tokyo Museum
