Japanese Woodblock Print  Name

#002 - Taiko Bridge at Kameido Tenjin in Tokyo Province   (かめゐど天神 たいこばし 東京)

From Series - Rare Views of Famous Japanese Bridges

Kameido Tenjin (now Kameido Tenmangu Shrine) and its surrounding area were famous

spots in the suburbs of Edo, and were depicted in many ukiyo-e prints.

The arched bridge and the wisteria trellis around the pond were famous,

but the shrine and bridge were burned down during the war and rebuilt after the war.

It seems that it was actually difficult to "climb" the arched bridge,

and women needed help.

Hokusai Series of Rare View of Famous Japanese Bridges  were reproduced

by Tokyo traditional woodcut craft Association

These traditional woodblock prints were reproduced exactly as the first edition

at Edo-Tokyo Museum have by many of top skilled craftsmen

like a dream team in Japan.
