Senju is said to have been named after the Thousand-Armed Kannon statue
that was found at the bottom of the river.
The Senju Bridge was the first bridge built over the Sumida River,
and Senjujuku developed as the first post town on the Nikko-Oshu Highway.
The bridge pier is made of a type of Japanese cypress,
and it is said that it did not rot even after being submerged in water for 300 years.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
