This work is based on the "Moon Pine Tree," which is depicted as an additional scene in
the separate painting "Shinobazu Pond at Ueno Shimizudo."
It was named after its branches that twisted in a circle, and it was a popular pine tree.
In the foreground is Shinobazu Pond, and on the opposite bank are Ikenohata
and Hongo.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
