To the east of Kameido Tenjin Shrine was the famous Edo plum garden "Seikoan,"
where hundreds of plum trees were planted.
This painting depicts the famous tree "Garyuu Ume," which is said to have been named
by Mito Mitsukuni.
It is well known that the painter Van Gogh tried to copy this painting
and learned its modern composition.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
