From One Hundred Famous Views of Edo
Gotenyama is a hill where the palace was located to welcome
Hideyoshi's concubine Yodo-dono as a hostage.
The building burned down during the Genroku period,
but cherry trees were planted there and it became a famous spot for
cherry blossom viewing.
At the end of the Edo period, when the threat of the Black Ships increased,
soil from the hill was used to build Odaiba.
This picture also shows the area after it was cut down.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)

Never framed, kept in professional condition.
