From One Hundred Famous Views of Edo
The Shakujii River is called the Otonashi River near Oji.
This painting depicts the river a little downstream from the separate painting
"Oji Takinogawa."
The name "Otonashi" comes from the fact that the water surface above
the dam in the back of the painting was silent and flat.
The hill on the left is Asukayama, and above the waterfall is Kinrinji Temple,
the head temple of Oji Gongen.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
