This is a picture of whitebait fishing that took place at night off
the coast of Tsukuda Island in winter.
The sight of the fishing taking place around bonfires was
one of the Edo period's most scenic spots.
The fish caught here were particularly delicious and were presented to the shogun.
The pillar on the left side of the picture is the pier of the Eitai Bridge.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints
begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
